By now most people have heard that Tumblr.com, and the many blogs hosted on Tumblr, were down for almost 24 hours due to a database cluster problem.
Well, guess what? Everyone’s RSS feeds for their various Tumblr-hosted blogs are still down! Even though the blogs have finally become available, the RSS feeds are still not responding. The /rss addresses just give a “We’ll be back shortly” error message. Grrrrrrr!
This is a very long outage, and having the RSS feeds down means that all of the inter-system automation that passes blog postings between software systems and other services, is also all down since the RSS feeds tie all of these inter-system communications together.
